It’s a terrible and beautiful love story. He first met Liz Goodman and Matt Roselyn, fell in love and had a child, but Liz died shortly after giving birth. What Matt has done since his death has been very inspiring.
Liz and Matt grew up in Minnetonka, Minnesota, but their true love story began with a chance meeting at a gas station. Liz and Matt met during their senior year of high school. Liz caught his eye and they became inseparable.
As graduation day approached, I had to accept the fact that I would be attending educational institutions across the country. When Liz left for California, Matt stayed at the University of Minnesota. Two high school sweethearts broke up because of this.
The distance didn’t matter as the couple persevered and attended college together. Matt was considering getting a Ph.D. But after earning his master’s degree from Loyola University Chicago, he soon decided to follow his heart instead.
In 2005, she realized she couldn’t stand being so far away from love anymore, so she packed her bags and moved across the country to Los Angeles. After that, they both moved on with their lives.
They made memories, went on adventures, and learned more about each other and the environment they lived in. When Matt realized this was true, he got down on one knee in Nepal and proposed to Liz.
On August 13, 2005, Liz and Matt pledged their eternal love in front of their friends and family. It was a lot of fun to watch these couples show their life and passion.
The newlyweds seemed to be enjoying every aspect of life. The two were happier than ever, not only in their relationship, but also in their professional lives.
Liz worked at Disney as a financial expert and Matt joined Yahoo! I work as a project manager in California. After that everything got better. The couple decided to start a family in 2007 after two years of marriage and were delighted to hear that Liz was expecting their first child.
Liz and Matt decided to start a blog to keep friends and family in Minnesota updated on the progress of Liz’s pregnancy. The couple couldn’t wait for their first child to be born, but Liz’s pregnancy was difficult.
Her doctor advised her to stay in bed for a few weeks because she was suffering from severe morning sickness. Despite these challenges, Liz and Matt remained optimistic throughout Liz’s pregnancy.
Matt watched Liz’s every move and became increasingly anxious as the pregnancy progressed. He was upset to see his normally awake and alert wife resting in bed.
After being admitted to the hospital, Liz was ordered to stay in bed for a few more weeks. Matt continued to post updates on his fledgling blog throughout the process. Not long ago, he didn’t know what to post on his website.
Due to false alarms, Liz was rushed to the delivery room twice as her pregnancy was deemed high risk. It arrived at least 7 weeks early every time. The doctors, not wanting to take any chances, kept a close eye on him.
Madeline (Maddie) Logelin was born by emergency C-section two months ago and the couple welcomed her into the family. On March 24, 2008, the lives of Matt Logelin and Liz Logelin were about to change. The newborn weighed 3 pounds, 14 ounces. Liz’s new parents barely got a chance to see their adorable daughter (pictured) before medical staff rushed her to the neonatal intensive care unit.
Liz had to be monitored for 24 hours after the birth, so she couldn’t hold her daughter right away. Liz was ready to wake up and see her newborn daughter back whole. Liz came to the department in a wheelchair. Matt and his wife wanted to finally give mother and baby time together and tried to understand her frustration when she suddenly felt dizzy and passed out.
The nurses immediately realized that this was typical of mothers who had just given birth. Even after Matt calmed down, they were able to continue spending time together.
Before he created Code Blue, Matt recalled, everything was going well. People were running and he was crying. Liz died unexpectedly of a pulmonary embolism shortly after the birth of her daughter, Madeline.
Matt was sad because she was now a widow. The pregnancy blog was supposed to be a happy place, but with Liz’s passing, it turned into a very sad place. Matt’s life changed completely in one day.
The first few weeks after losing his wife were the worst for Matt. She used to think about the moment her life changed irrevocably because she couldn’t take off her wedding ring. He often wondered how he would function without Liz.
Wherever Liz’s memories were, there were obstacles on the way home. When visitors asked about the baby’s mother, Matt said she died shortly after Madeline was born. It was hard to even leave the house.
The only thing that kept him going was the knowledge that his daughter needed him and that Madeline contained a little of his beloved wife’s soul within her. Despite his pain, Matt is determined to give her the best life possible. After that, she started contributing to the parenting newsletter run by the local newspaper. But his journey did not end there.
On March 24, 2018, Maddie Logelin turned 10 years old. In this context, Liz’s mother died tragically 10 years ago. Despite his difficult past, his father, family and friends did their best to surround him with love and happiness. As Maddie got older, Matt kept the information on his blog more private.
Maddie learned a lot about her mother through stories and photos over the years, and her interest in her grew. One day he innocently asked his father, “Dad, did you hold my mother’s hand when she died?” He constantly questions his late mother’s partner about past events.
Despite his best efforts, Matt’s clear explanation to his daughter can never erase what happened that day. After their conversation, Maddie says she loves her dad, and Matt remembers that he just needed to hear that. He said, “I love you too, Madi.”
