Lаnе Unhjеm, a dedicated farmer from Crosby, North Dakota, was diligently working on harvesting his wheat and canola crops when an unexpected challenge arose—his combine suddenly caught fire. Amidst the commotion, Lane suffered a heart attack and was urgently transported to the hospital for medical care.
In this heartwarming story of community spirit, neighbors, friends, and family members quickly rallied together to ensure Lane’s crops would not be lost. Around 60 compassionate farmers from Divide County paused their own harvesting schedules, utilizing their equipment to continue Lane’s work.
Jenna Binde, a family friend, expressed how quickly support flooded in. “I connected with a few farmers to borrow equipment, and soon enough, help was pouring in from across the county, along with workers ready to join in,” she shared with KFYR.
With incredible teamwork, the group used 11 combines, six grain carts, and 15 tractor-trailers, managing to harvest Lane’s Durum wheat and canola in just seven hours. Their collective efforts spanned over 1,000 acres.
The volunteers understood the potential loss for the Unhjem family if the crops were left unharvested. It seemed only natural to lend a hand, showcasing their agricultural camaraderie and dedication to helping one another.
