Elvis fell in love with his co-star Blue Hawaii in 1961 and wanted to marry her, despite his relationship with Priscilla Beaulieu at the time.
When I look at Joan Blackman in 1961, I think of Priscilla. Both have black hair and similar facial features. Elvis met her in Hollywood in 1958, just before he joined the army, and was so enamored with her that he continued to watch her and asked her to act in his films. Finally he did.
“When we first met (in 1957), there was a spark and magic in the air,” Joanne said. Sometimes it was so warm and sweet I could almost reach out and touch what was real between us.
She turned down many offers to support her career, saying she wanted roles based on her talent and not because of her relationship with Elvis. He really wanted to marry me.
“I fell in love with another actor, Hampton Fancher III. Elvis knew that. When he asked me about the Hamptons, I said, “I love it, Al.” “I love him as a woman loves a man with whom she wants to share her life.”
“I never lied to Elvis about the Hamptons or anything.”
