He Made a House of Only 89 Squares – Take a Peek Inside!

    3 Mins Read

Luke Thill, a spirited 13-year-old from Iowa, is far from your average teenager. While most kids his age are immersed in video games or social media, Luke has embarked on a unique adventure in his parents’ backyard. This remarkable young man’s project cost him around $1,500 USD to build a tiny sanctuary all his own. Let’s take a closer look at this marvel!

In an era dominated by smartphones and cutting-edge gadgets, Luke opted for a different kind of challenge. Instead of virtual worlds, he focused on the tangible experience of crafting his own space. On his YouTube channel, he shares the inspiration behind this venture, revealing that boredom nudged him toward this creative pursuit.

After pondering over his idea and conducting thorough research, Luke formulated a clear plan. His determination and resourcefulness are evident, considering the time it took him to gather funds and materials. Over a year, Luke mowed lawns, organized fundraisers, and took on various odd jobs to finance his dream.

His efforts didn’t go unnoticed. A friend skilled in electrical work offered his help in exchange for Luke clearing out his garage. Moreover, about 75% of the materials used were recycled, including leftovers from his grandmother’s house. The front door was a generous gift from his uncle’s friend!

The tiny house spans approximately 89 square feet, measuring 10 feet long and 5 ½ feet wide. While it boasts electricity, it lacks plumbing facilities like a toilet, sink, or shower.

Luke shared, “I liked the minimalism,” and expressed his desire to avoid hefty mortgages with his future home designs. His YouTube channel features several videos where he talks about the project’s genesis and his motivations, sparking curiosity and admiration online.

While Luke had parental support both in construction and finances, his father, Greg, insisted that Luke cover most expenses himself. Greg believes this endeavor offers valuable life lessons beyond sports or video games.

For a teenager, this house is a dream come true. It’s a personal haven equipped with a microwave, TV, loft bed, and even a backyard BBQ! Here, Luke seamlessly transitions from schoolwork to leisure, often spending nights in the cozy confines of his creation.

Looking ahead, Luke already envisions his next project—a slightly larger house for his college years. He hopes to inspire other young individuals, proving that age isn’t a barrier to building your dreams.

“I want to show kids it’s possible to build at this age,” Luke said. He stands as a testament to what a clear goal and unwavering dedication can achieve, especially with a sprinkle of encouragement from family.

This young builder’s tale highlights the amazing feats possible with vision and effort. Like and share so more people can discover Luke’s extraordinary endeavor!
