Doctors declare a teenager involved in a car accident dead, but his mother is praying for him.
As much as we all hope for miracles, this Texas mother’s prayers were answered when her son was returned to her.
This heartwarming tale of a mother’s love and determination to never give up on her child is truly inspirational.
Torianto “Junior” Brinson, then 15 years old, excelled academically at his Missouri City, Texas, high school.
Everyone agreed that Junior had an extremely promising future. He was enrolled in college courses, achieving good grades, being involved in band, playing sports, and excelling in sports.
He experienced a regrettable mishap just as he was about to take on even bigger challenges. After the vehicle crashed, he was flung out of it. The vehicle was totally wrecked.
My daughter called me a minute after it occurred, crying uncontrollably. “Mom, you must come here right now.”. “.
That meant that they were essentially in close proximity to the residence. We therefore took to the streets in our cars. La’Kisha, Junior’s mother, remembers, “had to get out of the car, run, and saw him lying there.”.
According to her, they found four medics tending to her son there. After being flown by Life Flight to Texas Medical Center, doctors there declared her son deceased.
“I remember asking them, ‘You’re just going to let my baby just sit here?’ and they were like, ‘There’s nothing they can do,'” recalls La’Kisha. “They told us that he was gone and there was nothing they could do.”.
She then urged her loved ones to offer prayers. With all her might, she knelt over her son’s corpse and prayed. The prayer was effective.
“A minute later, I saw his hand move as I was holding his hand and praying, saying, ‘Junior, I need you!'” she cries.
His therapy and recovery were sparked by that movement.
He had a traumatic brain injury and was taken right away for emergency surgery.
He was in a semi-coma at Memorial Hermann during the most difficult few months of his recuperation. However, over time, he made enough progress to be moved to TIRR Memorial Hermann.
He continued to have difficulty moving regularly in bed. It was very hard to get up and move. Dr. Liz Larkin, his physical therapist, stated that he needed two people to assist him.
The TIRR Memorial Hermann medical staff kept an eye on the stimulation that Junior responded to the best.
In order to give him the best chance of success, Dr. Larkin clarified, “the amount of sound and noise and light and things like that.”.
Junior, on the other hand, has resumed playing basketball. The young man remembers his freshman year, when he made varsity. He declared, “I want to play for the Houston Rockets.”.
Throughout everything, his family has been his pillar of support. Even though Junior doesn’t remember the accident or the months he spent in rehab, he still finds it all to be an amazing accomplishment.
“My son escaped punishment. Since the eighth grade, he has been a band star and played basketball in school. Thus, even though it didn’t seem like it, I refused to think that God was going to take his future. His mother stated, “We believed even though some told us he wouldn’t walk or talk.”.
Due to the fact that Junior was enrolled in college courses during his senior year of high school and high school courses during his junior year, he will still graduate with his class!
Junior’s family received guidance on how to support his progress at home from the medical staff at TIRR Memorial Hermann.
“We taught him how to bathe, how to brush his teeth, and how to eat,” La’Kisha, his mother, said.
Since I am a teacher, I started teaching him math concepts, how to understand what he reads again, and fourth grade work. “.
Junior, though, is now his true self again. For those at his level, he is enrolled in summer courses.
