Luna’s mother Karen Bissett, 21, went upstairs at their Wakefield, West Yorkshire, home on July 17, just two days after Luna was born.
Deane informed her the following day that Luna was having trouble breathing after falling and hitting her head during the previous night.
Her face was severely bruised and swollen when paramedics arrived after they called an ambulance.
The following day, July 14, three days after the attack, Luna was taken to Leeds General Infirmary where she passed away in intensive care.
Luna died from head trauma and had “catastrophic brain injuries,” according to a doctor. “.
When questioned by police, Deane, a Wakefield resident, broke down and confessed to attacking the infant.
On July 10, the mother had gone to bed at their Wakefield home, leaving the infant, named Luna, with her father.
Deane reportedly hit the infant in the face, shaken and squeezed her, and testified in court.
“Catastrophic brain injuries” caused her to pass away while she was receiving intensive care at Leeds Infirmary.
After that, Deane sobbed during a police interview and confessed to the assault.
