What at first appeared to be the ideal pairing soon became a nightmare. There were highs and lows throughout Meghan Markle’s time as a working member of the royal family.
We all know that it ultimately resulted in her and Harry permanently quitting the royal family, critiquing them, and charging them with mistreatment.
While it started out as a lovely tale—the then-Prince Charles even offered to lead Meghan down the aisle at her wedding when her own father was infamously unable to attend—Meghan didn’t take to life as a royal.
The monarchy has its own set of rules, which its members are expected to abide by, in addition to the many obligations that come with it.
The royal family follows a number of customs and restrictions, including what and how to eat, how to behave when attending royal events, and even how to greet guests.
Some of the royal laws are very strict and cannot be disregarded. Others are more recommendations for how a member of the royal family should behave or act in specific circumstances rather than being hard and fast rules.
The royal code of conduct, however, probably differs greatly from those that apply when the typical individual and their friends go out to supper.
She “hated being controlled by royal protocol,” according to the royal source, for instance while leaving the house.
The family members must always notify their whereabouts before leaving their homes, which is one of the most important rules in the royal domain. And Meghan didn’t look good in it.
The royal insider explained to Quinn, “the fact, for instance, that at Kensington Palace, royals have to announce in advance when they are leaving the Palace and where they are going.”
In addition to security reasons, this prevents a more junior royal from overshadowing a senior royal by departing at the same time as the more important individual.
The rule, in Meghan Markle’s opinion, was “silly.” It was “absolutely essential,” the insider said, nevertheless.
There has never, in my opinion, been a bigger gap between what someone expected to experience as a member of the Royal Family and what they really found out. She was really dissatisfied,” the Palace employee added, saying that other members of the royal family felt the same way about the restriction.
“I believe Charles agreed with Meghan on a number of points; he believed that much of the etiquette was absurd, but that it was difficult to alter. George, Louis, and Charlotte are all so traditional and have a 1950s-era aesthetic because William has bought into it.
Meghan wants something different for her children than this, the expert continued, “she wants American freedom to do and say what you like and go where you like.”
