In 2003, Melanie Shaha of Gilbert, Arizona, was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor called a pituitary tumor.
The tumor’s effect on the function of a gland near the base of his brain caused, among other things, dull headaches. As a result, she tragically lost her hair, leaving her vulnerable and defenseless. Luckily, her son stepped up and grew her hair out and gave his mom a wig to be proud of. Melanie has found solace in difficult times, and her son’s wig is a wonderful reminder of how far an act of love can go.
Melanie Shaha was shocked to learn that radiation treatment had caused her hair to fall out. He underwent surgery to remove tumors from his body three times in 2006, 2017 and 2018, but the side effects of hair loss persisted.
Melania found it difficult to interact with others when she appeared in public because she was uncomfortable being the center of attention due to her lack of hair. Had difficulty interacting with others when shopping or in everyday life. To make matters worse, her son Matt made an offensive comment about it at a family dinner in 2018.
Matt showed sacrifice and dedication by growing his hair for his mother. It all started when he graduated college and cut his hair short.
After finding a new freedom with her hair, she suggested to Melanie Shaha that her hair might grow long enough to make wigs. Although he initially refused to put on weight, Matt kept trying and by March 21st he had grown 12 inches.
He then gathered his colleagues to help him cut and make the wig. Melanie’s reaction to this emotional moment between son and mother was so emotional it brought tears to her eyes.
Melanie received her hand tied wig in June after being sent to Works of Mercy in Newport Beach, California. This action reminds her how much Matt cares for her in ways that words cannot express.
Company founder Veronica Balch loved working with families and was encouraged by someone willing to shave their head for another family member. Melanie was delighted to see the stunningly colored wig, which was custom made and professionally cut. Her husband Matt agreed when he told her he thought it was great. Melanie’s emotional cup overflowed with his love and support, and for that she was eternally grateful.
